Prepare for winter: How to plan for strength instead of retreat as a musician
Autumn is getting darker. The days are getting shorter. And you can feel your energy changing.
Maybe you want to retreat. Maybe you're tired from the year. Maybe you just want to take a deep breath.
That's okay. And important.
But retreating doesn't mean you have to drop everything. You can consciously shape winter as a phase of strength, not chaos.
I invite you to plan your winter like a musician who knows herself:
Your 3-step winter plan
1. consciously bring things to a close
Before you plan something new: What can be ended?
Outstanding invoices?
Another concert in December?
A half-finished project that you (honestly) no longer want to implement anyway?
Make a final list for 2025. Everything that you do NOT take with you into the winter will give you strength.
2. reset your focus
Ask yourself: What do I really want to give myself in winter?
Room for creativity (songwriting, demos)?
Time for further training (music coaching, community, technology)?
Just silence and clarity?
You don't have to be "productive" - but you can be aware.
3. build up a winter routine
Instead of letting yourself drift, make a mini-plan:
Remain visible once a week (post, reel, newsletter)
Creative time once a week (voice, writing, practicing)
1x per week connection (call with colleague, live session, get inspiration)
Winter can feel empty if you live through it haphazardly.
But it can be your strongest time if you make it like an inner retreat.
I love winter. Not because of the cold, but because it makes you honest.
And honesty is the best basis for any music that is meant to touch.
Kind regards
