Be Your Own Star

From Dancer to Professional Manager
Nothing I've done has happened by chance.
I didn’t follow a traditional path; I didn’t study music, nor did I have a clear-cut plan for “how to succeed in the music industry.” Instead, it all began with the realization I had at a very young age of just how deeply art, the stage, and music moved me. I started playing the piano when I was eight, and later added acting to the mix, and even back then it was clear: I want to be part of this world, not just as an observer, but right in the thick of it.
Even before I officially entered the industry, I had already gained some initial experience: I helped out at theaters, worked at concerts at the Olympiahalle in Munich, my hometown, and was involved in organizing festivals. At the same time, I was active as a professional dancer and performed regularly on stage.
And that’s exactly where I learned something crucial: that while performing on stage myself is fulfilling, it makes me even happier to watch other people’s dreams come true.
This shift in perspective has had a significant impact on my path.
My actual entry into the industry came through an internship at MWO Management. And even there, it quickly became clear that I didn’t just want to tag along. I wanted to understand how this industry really works—behind the scenes, in decision-making, and in strategy. I took on responsibility, contributed my ideas, and within a short time, I grew into a permanent management role.
Today, I work as Head of Europe for an international artist management firm with offices in London, Los Angeles, and Munich, and each week I support several artists as they navigate an industry that is often complex, overwhelming, and yet full of opportunities. My focus is not just on individual projects, but on long-term careers: international bookings, strategic planning, brand building, release strategies, and the question of how artists can not only gain visibility but also make a sustainable living from it.
A pivotal turning point on my journey was the period during the COVID-19 pandemic. While much of the industry came to a standstill, it became all the more clear to me that I needed to build my knowledge even more deeply and broadly on my own. I began to delve deeply into topics such as social media, positioning, content strategy, and monetization—not theoretically, but directly in practice, with real musicians and real results. It was precisely this phase that shaped my understanding of how careers truly develop today: not by chance, but through clear systems, repeatability, and strategic decisions.
At the same time, I remain deeply involved in the live and event industry to this day. I work in the music and event sector at Bayerischer Rundfunk, serve on the international jury of the Tour Music Fest in Italy, and have been supporting Traumfabrik—one of the most successful touring productions in the German-speaking world—for years, both in marketing and in tour operations. This combination of strategic work, an international network, and hands-on implementation on and behind the stage shapes my holistic view of the industry.
Based on all these experiences, Be Your Own Star was launched in 2021. It’s not a traditional coaching program, but rather a response to a problem I’ve seen time and again: an incredible amount of talent, but very little structure. Musicians who give it their all but don’t know which steps are truly crucial.
With Be Your Own Star, I’ve created a space where all of these elements come together: clarity, strategy, and real-world implementation. Over the past few years, I’ve had the privilege of working with over 200 artists—many of whom were just starting out, while others were already at an advanced level—but almost all of them had one thing in common: the feeling that they were stuck or hadn’t yet fully realized their potential.
What fulfills me most about this isn’t just growth in numbers, but the development behind it: when uncertainty gives way to clarity, when chaos gives way to structure, and when artists begin to truly take control of their own careers.
My work is based on the belief that a successful music career today no longer depends on chance. It is the result of clear decisions, strategic thinking, and the ability to combine creative vision with entrepreneurial action.
Christina Baur embodies precisely this combination: artistic insight, strategic clarity, and an honest assessment of what it truly takes to not only make a name for oneself in this industry but also achieve long-term success.
