Why your network is worth its weight in gold at festivals

Festivals are more than just a stage. They are a meeting place for people who shape the music business. While you concentrate on your performance, conversations, connections and spontaneous encounters happen all around you. And this is exactly where your greatest opportunity lies to become visible - not just on stage, but in the minds of those who make the decisions.

The music business is not just about talent, it's about trust. People don't book the best email, they book the person they have a good feeling about. And this feeling comes from real encounters.

When you play at a festival, you are already visible. But the question is: Do you actively use this visibility?

Here are five concrete ways you can strengthen your network at festivals:

  1. Prepare yourself
Find out before the event: Which bookers, agencies or other acts will be there? Is there anyone you would like to meet? Make a note of names or Instagram handles to make it easier to stay in touch later.

  2. Talk to people, not positions
Approach others openly without having a goal in mind. You don't have to convince anyone. An honest "I thought your gig was great" is often more effective than any self-presentation.

  3. Have something to share
A QR code with your EPK, a small sticker, your socials - if the conversation fits, show that you are prepared. But don't put anything in anyone's hand without a real exchange having taken place.

  4. Make a note of who you met
Make a few quick notes in the evening - who was that person you spoke to about your new EP? This reminder will help you to follow up.

  5. Get in touch after the festival
Write a short message, follow on Instagram or simply send a thank you for the interview. It shows that you are interested - without expectations.

Why is this important now? Because many musicians think it's all about the gig. But what you build backstage will sustain your business in the long term. Maybe this very encounter is the beginning of your next tour, your next support, your first deal.
