The Rauhnächte as a creative source of energy for musicians
When the year comes to a close, something magical opens up:
The time between the years, known as the Rauhnächte, is for many merely a spiritual phenomenon. For me, it has become a powerful space for artistic clarity.
For years, I have been working with musicians who doubt their direction. Who don't know what their next step is.
And I always say: "The answer doesn't come from doing. It comes from listening."
And that's exactly what the Rauhnächte are for.
What does that mean for you as a musician?
1. Every night, a creative impulse
The Rauhnächte (from December 25 to January 6) symbolically represent the coming months.
I use them for short writing prompts:
"What do I want to feel in March?"
"Which voice do I want to strengthen in May?"
"What am I letting go of in July?"
I often open these questions in the morning or evening, with music, sometimes with a candle. And I write. Without filters. You'll be surprised at what emerges.
2. Sound instead of control
You can also listen to a song every day, or improvise yourself, that captures the feeling of the month for you.
This kind of "sound diary" has already given me new musical ideas. Without any pressure.
3. Let go of the old, don't force the new
The Rauhnächte are not a challenge.
They are an invitation.
You can let go—projects, roles, obligations—and feel what you no longer want to carry with you.
I remember one Rauhnacht when I realized that I didn't have to continue every collaboration. That one decision changed my entire 2023.
You don't have to be spiritual to benefit from the Rauhnächte.
Just be willing to listen honestly. And be brave enough to give your inner voice space.
If you want to dive deeper, I will accompany you through the Rauhnächte again this year, with tasks, inspiration, and a community of musicians who want to grow together.
Kind regards
