Spring isn't a coincidence – how you need to rehearse now to shine in May
The first sunny day in February.
You can feel it: something is starting out there. But you're inside. In front of the mirror. With a tired voice. And the question:
"How am I supposed to be stage-ready by May?"
Because what is to shine on stage in spring must be shaped now, in invisible February.
Many musicians underestimate this moment. Yet it is crucial for your stage presence, your mental strength, and your career as a musician.
If you want to be confident performing at festivals, on stage, or at small living room concerts in May, you need to rehearse now like someone who means business.
Why rehearsals are different in February
The winter energy still lingers in your bones.
Your body feels sluggish, your head is overflowing with tax issues, booking plans, and social media content for musicians.
But right now, you have to decide: Are you going to approach the season like an amateur, or like someone who understands the music business?
Practice early, but with a system
1. Start with technique, not performance
Before you start working on your stage program, take 7 days to focus purely on technique:
Voice training, breathing, presence exercises.
Start with the basics that you may have neglected in 2025.
This will give you confidence and a new body awareness.
2. Try out new set lists early on
If you're planning to play new songs or medleys, do it now. Not three days before the gig.
Test transitions, song dramaturgy, and suspense arcs as early as February.
Invite a friend or film yourself.
This will help you identify any longueurs or uncertainties before it counts.
3. Train your energy—not just your singing
Real stage presence doesn't just come from your voice.
It comes from your inner state.
Dance your way in. Try different energy levels.
How does your opener sound when you start at full power?
How about when you start quietly?
When you play with your energy, magic happens, not just music.
Spring belongs to those who are prepared
If you rehearse today, you will not only be ready in May, you will be radiantly visible. Because you didn't wait for "inspiration." You acted like a professional artist.
And honestly, the applause in spring is much nicer when you know how hard you rehearsed in February.
Kind regards
